Thrive Counseling Center offers ADHD testing using QbTest for both children and adults. QbTest is a diagnostic screening tool NOT a full psychological evaluation and should not be used in place of a full psychological evaluation. QbTest is an FDA cleared, 15-20-minute computer-based objective test that measures core ADHD symptoms: activity, attention and impulsivity. Results are analyzed and presented in a report that compares a client's results with a group of people of the same age and gender who do not have ADHD.
QbTest is an essential part of the ADHD pathway, and the results are used in conjunction with other ADHD assessment tools to aid clinical judgement. This test also provides a valuable baseline measurement that can help to evaluate any future changes in your activity, attention and impulsivity. After receiving treatment for ADHD, you can perform the test again to see how your symptoms are improving.
The test is performed on a computer in our office.
During the test a number of symbols are shown on the computer screen. The task is to push the responder button when a certain symbol appears on the screen. The test takes 15-minutes for ages 6-12 and 20-minutes for 12+. The test is not dependent on your language, reading or mathematic skills.
You will be welcomed on arrival by our friendly clinicians, who will:
• Check that all of your personal details are correct
• Explain the test directions
• Watch a test instruction video
• Complete practice tests to make you feel more confident
• You can ask questions prior to the test starting
• When you are ready the clinician will start the test
• Our clinician is with you to offer support if required
*Please note: if a child is testing, the parent/caretaker will be asked to leave the room in order to aid in the child's concentration - we do offer parents/caretakers the opportunity to observe with a monitor*
Although the test only takes 15-20 minutes, you can expect to be at your appointment for 60-90 minutes to have enough time for the test, the clinical interview and for you and your clinician to review your results.
The cost of the QbTest/appointment is $350. There is a $100 deposit due at the time of scheduling to reserve your spot that will be applied to the total cost of the test on the day of your appointment. The entire $350 is due at the time of testing. As a courtesy, we can attempt to bill your medical insurance after the testing is completed.
It is not guaranteed that this is a covered service. If your insurance does reimburse for this service, we will provide you a refund of your $100 deposit and/or the amount received from your insurance company. If your insurance does not cover the service, the money collected will not be refunded. Due to the high demand of ADHD testing, you will forfeit your $100 deposit if you cancel less than 48-hours before your scheduled appointment.
**Deductibles and co-pays may apply**
**It is best to contact your insurance company and give them the CPT codes prior to the appointment so that you will know your out-of-pocket expense prior to your appointment**
We use the following CPT Codes for ADHD Testing:
96136 - Administering the Test
96132 - Reviewing Results/Feedback Session
What are the benefits of the QbTest?
The QbTest results can help find out why you may be having difficulties in concentrating, feeling fidgety, having trouble listening, or having too much energy at night. Some of these feelings may be more noticeable in school or at work. The QbTest results can help determine the type of support you may need in the future to help you feel more confident.
Does the camera film me?
You are not being filmed at any time. The only information the computer camera captures is how much the marker has moved during the test. Please don’t wear anything sparkly or with a reflective strip as this will interfere with the test equipment.
What if I get it wrong?
You can’t get it wrong. QbTest is about tracking how you respond and will help gather valuable information to help support you in the future. It is not a pass or fail test.
Can children younger than 6 perform the test?
Unfortunately, the minimum age for QbTest is 6-years-old.
Remember you will also have the opportunity to ask questions at your appointment so do not worry if your question is not on our list.
Through independent collaborations with world leading researchers in the field, more than 30 studies have been performed with QbTest or QbCheck to address their validity, clinical utility and usefulness in treatment follow up.
